"NME" is an commonly used acronym for the "New Musical Express" magazine. It is published weekly in the UK since 1952.
This issue of "NME" magazine has a low angle mid shot of M.I.A. The main picture is used as a background and all the text overlays it. The picture looks a little bit aggressive and the colours of the texts reflect the colours of model's clothes. The top has a national symbolic - it is coloured as a Great Britain flag. The model is looking straight at the camera and attracts the reader. The masthead is in bold big red font same as the main cover line, however styles of the fonts are different. Most of the cover lines are in sans serif and black or white colours. These colours match the top of the model and look good and attention grabbing.
The text is balanced with picture and is placed both left and right on the cover. The main cover line which is linked to the picture has the biggest size of the font and stands out the most. There are some swear words in the text and also a cigarette that model is smoking. This creates an impression that M.I.A. is quite cheeky and acts as a "bad girl".
There is really only one cover line on the right of the page which says "The state of music today" that is followed by the list of names of artists and suggest that the magazine has quite a lot of articles and interviews with famous people. There is also an advertising bit which is specific for this issue as it prints "Special edition covers" of the new version of the magazine. It is underlined with a thin line to make it different from all the rest of the text.
The number of issue and date is placed above the masthead in tiny white font and in the opposite corner is the barcode with the website.
Generally, the cover is quite eye-catching and has bright accents. It has just enough text to interest the reader and is probably aimed to a teenage and young people audience.
This is the January 2012 "NME" magazine cover with Lana Del Rey on the cover.
