The "BillBoard" magazine is produced weekly all over the world and is keen on music industry. Made in 1894 in United States it is one of the oldest music magazines today.
This is an issue with Lady Gaga on the cover. To start with it is a medium shot of Gaga which overlays the masthead. She looks straight at the camera and this catches the eye of the potential reader. The overall background is a warm purple-grey colour and in a way it echoes the colours of the main picture with a bright accent on the purple wig. Overall in terms of colours, they are kept simple black and white (sometimes a little bit transparent or light purple). Also there are some purple crosses/flowers in between the cover lines that make this particular cover special and different.
The image takes the majority of the space on the cover and is slightly to the right so that most of the text is placed on the left. It not just overlays the masthead but also some bits of the cover lines, like in "Lady Gaga" or last letters in "Jackson". All text is bold, and looks like in the same sans serif font but of different sizes. The most important cover lines stand out the most because of their size such as "Lady Gaga" or "The song is mine".
The musthead is the biggest writing on the cover and is also in sans serif bold black font. Two letters in the "board" - A and D - are coloured in bright and contrasting yellow and blue colours that stand out on the magazine cover. There is also a banner over the masthead in serif bold font of a light purple colour and more tiny writing in between the banner and the masthead.
The number and date of the issue as well as the web adress are placed above the barcode in the left corner of the cover page.
Overall the cover looks attractive mostly because of the image, as it is eye catching and a little bit sexy as she pulls her coat off the shoulder showing a tiny bit of her naked body. This will probably attract the male audience, but also her fans will definitely read this magazine. It is quite simple in it's layout and colours, but has some things that stand out the most. It gives a lot of information of insides of the magazine and makes it interesting for many different people.
To show some pattern I've decided to compare this cover with another issue of a same magazine.
We see some similarity in both covers:

To show some pattern I've decided to compare this cover with another issue of a same magazine.
We see some similarity in both covers:
- the background is also a plain bright colour
- the picture is nearly long mid shot and overlays the masthead
- most of the text is placed at the left side of the cover and the picture is slightly to the right
- there is some text above the masthead
- the colours of the text are simple and mostly black with some yellow and white
- the most important cover line stand out and is connected to the main picture
The cover grabs attention because of its brightness and big font, and again the model, even though posing sideway, looks straight to the camera, what creates a feeling she is looking at the reader.
